Definitely my top 5-ish zombie movie! ... World War Z is certainly the largest scale zombie story that I have seen. Directed by Marc Forster, World War Z is interesting for its vastness and striking with its fast pace. Initially, I felt like Brad Pitt was slightly miscast, but as the film progresses, Pitt’s character evolves and he grows into the role.Though the storyline does feel rushed, World War Z blends survival elements with a scientific analysis as Pitt’s protagonist attempts to solve the puzzle of what could cure humanity from the raging disease. Though there is little in the zombie genre that is truly new, World War Z showcases insane special effects that maximize the terror of the infected.With an opening act that introduces the audience to the conflict early, the rest of World War Z works as an investigative adventure across the globe. The supporting cast is virtually inexistent as the film primarily features Pitt navigating high-octane situations and intense combat sequences.While the film is an easy watch, I have to admit the farfetchedness exceeds more disbelief than the typical zombie film. The resolution to the conflict feels slightly oversimplified and the final act ends with the audience expecting much more. Overall, World War Z is a massive scale story that is made exhilarating because of its fast pace and compelling protagonist.

However, a film that also expands the lore of a zombie virus that, while not perfect, remains underrated is World War Z, and it's a shame that it never got a sequel.While on the surface, a zombie action movie starring Brad Pitt might sound formulaic, World War Z consistently subverts the audience's expectations. Pitt does not play an absolute badass, but a resourceful thinker. The zombies not only move like an Olympic sprinter, but also in how they relate to our own natural world.He's also the one to figure out how to stop people who have been bitten from turning is severing their limbs as soon as bitten, which normally takes characters in zombie projects a long time to figure out, but for Gerry, only a couple of instances. ... I need a hug, Bub. ... World War Z certainly didn't invent fast zombies, nor was it the first to show metropolitan landscapes torn apart by the rampage of undead monsters.There is a key difference between how this film and 28 Days Later portray the zombies. In Days Later and Years Later, there is a focus on exploring the idea of what humanity is left in these creatures, giving them moments of lucidity or humanity in between the rage. In contrast, World War Z portrays the infected as completely animalistic, with one expressing its anger via the nashing of its teeth at Gerry when he is trapped in a medical room.
